5e splits treasure into two kinds. Individual treasure is the loose coins a monster carries — rolled per creature, scaling with its Challenge Rating. Treasure hoards are the big stashes — a dragon’s pile or a vault — rolled once and holding coins plus a chance of gems, art objects, and magic items.
Both use tables organized by CR tier: CR 0–4, 5–10, 11–16, and 17+. Higher tiers roll more and bigger coins, and hoards at higher tiers pull magic items from rarer tables. This generator rolls those tables for you so you don’t have to flip pages mid-session.
Treasure is a pacing tool, not a strict formula. Award hoards at meaningful moments — a boss, a vault, a milestone — rather than after every fight, and adjust the results to fit your world and your party’s level.
