    The Most Searched D&D Conditions and Rules (2026 Data)

    Exhaustion is the most searched condition in D&D 5e, at about 16,000 US searches a month. We ranked all 15 conditions and 20 rules that come up often at the table by US search volume, to show which rules people check most.

    Key findings

    • Exhaustion is the most searched of the 35 conditions and rules we checked, at about 16,000 US searches a month for "exhaustion 5e". That is 1.8 times the next condition, Incapacitated (8,900).
    • Conditions average 4,937 searches each, against 2,132 for the 20 rules. 7 of the top 10 terms are conditions.
    • Two-weapon fighting (6,700) and short rest (6,500) are the most searched rules. "short rest 5e" gets 3.8 times the searches of "long rest 5e" (1,700).
    • Flanking, an optional rule in the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide, gets 1,600 searches a month, more than cover (1,400), which is in the core rules.
    • Petrified is the least searched condition at 300. "advantage 5e" (50) and "death saving throws 5e" (80) probably look rare because people word those searches differently; see the methodology.

    Methodology and limitations

    Source. Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, United States database. Each number is Ahrefs' estimate of the average monthly search volume over the last 12 months for one keyword. Condition volumes were pulled on October 3, 2026; rule volumes on October 12, 2026.

    Keywords. One keyword per term, in the form "<term> 5e" ("exhaustion 5e", "opportunity attack 5e"). Searches phrased other ways are not counted. That matters most for rules people usually describe in other words: "advantage 5e" and "death saving throws 5e" score low, probably because people phrase those searches differently ("advantage and disadvantage", "death saves"), which we did not measure.

    Rule list. All 15 conditions, plus 20 rules we picked because they come up often in play (combat actions, resting, movement, character building). It is not every rule in the game. Flanking is an optional rule in the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide and multiclassing is an optional rule in the 2014 Player's Handbook; the rest are standard rules.

    Estimates. Search volumes are modelled and rounded by Ahrefs, so small gaps are not meaningful. Common words (Cover, Inspiration, Surprise, Concentration) may pick up searches that are not about the rule even with "5e" added. The "5e" keyword does not separate the 2014 and 2024 rules.

    No player data. Everything here is public search data. It does not use any data from Loreify users or their sessions.
