What Craig Does
Craig joins your voice channel and records each speaker on their own track. Every track stays in sync, even when someone joins late. That lets an editor fix one loud player or cut one person's cough without touching anyone else.
- •Commands:
/join starts a recording (in your current channel by default), /note marks a moment, /stop ends it. /recordings lists past recordings.
- •Formats: FLAC or MPEG-4 AAC, or open the recording as an Audacity project or an Adobe Audition session.
- •Free limits: up to 6 hours per recording, kept for 7 days.
- •Track record: Craig's site says it has made over 4.5 million recordings in 500,000 servers since 2017.
Supporter tiers on Patreon:
| Tier | Price | What it adds |
|---|
| Free | $0 | 6-hour recordings, kept 7 days |
| Tier 1 | $1/mo | 14-day storage, avatar video overlays, cloud backup to Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox |
| Tier 2 | $4/mo | 30-day storage, 24-hour recordings, auto-leveled premixed audio, automatic recording |
| Tier 3 | $8/mo | Everything above plus transcripts (WebVTT, SRT, or plain text) and 24-bit FLAC in the web app |
What Craig Doesn't Do
Craig's output is audio, plus a transcript on Tier 3. Nothing on its site mentions summaries. Even with a transcript, a four-hour session is tens of thousands of words of crosstalk, rules questions, and pizza orders. Someone still has to read it and pull out:
- •what happened, in order
- •which NPCs the party met and what they said
- •new quests, clues, and promises
- •who's carrying the cursed sword
- •where you stopped
That job is what a notes bot does.

How Loreify's Discord Bot Works
Loreify is our app, so weigh this section accordingly.
- •Join a voice channel and type
/loreify-record. Add a title and campaign if you like. The bot never starts on its own.
- •Play. Use
/loreify-pause and /loreify-resume for breaks, or /loreify-cancel to throw a recording away.
- •Type
/loreify-stop. The session is transcribed and written up.
- •A summary posts to your Discord channel: recap, NPCs, quests, loot, and a share link. Players don't need an account to open it.
The full notes in the app add a timeline, unresolved threads, word-for-word quotes, and a lore map that connects characters, places, and events across sessions. /loreify-campaign-create takes a dictionary of your campaign's names ("Vex, Keyleth, Whitestone") so transcription spells them right. /loreify-settings sets the language and whether each player has to click a consent button before they're recorded.
Setup steps are in the Discord help guide. Pricing is $15/month, $120/year, or $7/month for up to 2 sessions, after a 7-day free trial. More on the notes themselves: the D&D note-taking app.
When Craig Is the Better Pick
Be honest about what you need. Craig wins when:
- •You publish the audio. Actual-play podcasts and YouTube shows need per-speaker tracks. Loreify records one mixed track and doesn't give you editable stems.
- •You want an archive, not notes. If the goal is "keep a copy of the session", Craig does it for free.
- •You only need a transcript. Craig Tier 3 at $8/month gives you subtitle-format transcripts, which is useful for captions.
- •You play long. Supporters can record up to 24 hours in one go.
Loreify wins when nobody in your group wants to be the note-taker, or when "what was that NPC's name?" comes up every week.
Using Both
Plenty of podcast tables do both. Record with Craig for the show, and still get notes:
- •Download a mixed file from Craig. Tier 2 includes premixed audio. Free users can mix the tracks in Audacity.
- •Upload it on Loreify's new-session page. It accepts FLAC, AAC/M4A, MP3, WAV, and other common formats.
You get Craig's per-speaker stems for editing and Loreify's notes for the campaign.
Other Alternatives
Two other bots record D&D sessions on Discord and write them up:
- •Archivist: recaps, a campaign compendium, and a quest log. 30-day free trial, then from $10/month for 4 sessions.
- •Kazkar:
/summon and /banish commands, narrative chronicles, a lore wiki, and a relationship graph. Free tier with 10 hours of recording.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Craig bot free?
Yes. Free recordings can be up to 6 hours long and are kept for 7 days. Patreon tiers at $1, $4, and $8 a month add longer storage, longer recordings, cloud auto-upload, and (at $8) transcripts.
Does Craig transcribe recordings?
Only for Tier 3 supporters ($8/month). Transcripts come as WebVTT, SRT, or plain text. Craig doesn't summarize sessions or write notes.
What is the best Craig alternative for D&D session notes?
A bot that writes notes, not just audio: Loreify, Archivist, or Kazkar. All three record from Discord and turn the session into a written recap.
Can I use Craig and Loreify together?
Yes. Keep Craig for per-speaker audio, then upload a mixed export to Loreify to get session notes from the same recording.
How long does Craig keep recordings?
7 days on the free plan, 14 days on Tier 1, and 30 days on Tiers 2 and 3. Download anything you want to keep before then.
